Associate Financial Planner Job Description

We are seeking an Associate Financial Planner to join our growing team in San Diego, California. If you are a CFP® certificant or would like to become one, this might be a good fit for you. This role will allow for the opportunity to immediately work directly with clients and help shape the future of a highly committed financial planning firm.

In this role, you will be preparing for all meetings, conducting research, preparing reports for client service requests, completing follow up communications and the implementation of actions that result from client meetings and relationships. In addition, you will prepare initial drafts of all of our financial life plans including building financial models, performing financial analysis, conducting client-specific research, coordinating with outside service providers and developing recommendations.

A qualified candidate must be passionate about helping clients, reliable, organized, and goal-oriented. This position requires the ability to work well in both a self‐directed manner and in a collaborative environment while embracing the firm’s core values. Candidates should passionately believe that client interests always come first.

Responsibilities we’ll trust you with

  • Prepare or update financial plans, including cash flow, financial goal, and tax projections.
  • Contribute to the full range of financial planning areas, including cash flow management, debt management, retirement planning, estate plan review, housing cost analysis, insurance evaluation, employee benefits review, tax analysis, investment management and education planning.
  • Help clients implement our recommendations.
  • Research issues for clients and respond.
  • Prepare for, attend and follow-up on client meetings.
  • Interact with the rest of our team to improve procedures and grow the firm.
  • Assist with trading and portfolio management.
  • We will provide you with a structured training program. Our goal is for you to get the training and experience you need to grow into a lead advisor role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Finance, Accounting, or Business preferred
  • 2-3 years of experience in financial planning required
  • Passed the CFP® exam or on track to take the exam within 2 years required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ideal team members for our office culture will have a strong work ethic, be self-motivated and have collaborative and interpersonal skills.
  • Above average ability in time management and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of financial planning software such as eMoney, MoneyGuidePro, iRebal, and Wealthbox
